Bachelor's in Petroleum Refining and Petrochemistry

The curriculum consists of subjects related to Process Engineering and fundamental subjects in petroleum refining and transformation.

At the end of this interdisciplinary training, graduates will have acquired enough theoretical and practical knowledge to understand a petroleum transformation process :

General Objective

The Bachelor's in 'Petroleum Refining and Petrochemistry,' derived from the Industrial Process Engineering program, provides basic training to prepare specialized professionals in petroleum refining and other petrochemical industries (manufacturing polymers, fertilizers, etc.).

Due to its nature, this specialty, which is naturally related to petroleum transformation processes, is based on fundamental knowledge of process engineering and its applications. Therefore, basic teachings primarily revolve around fundamental process engineering subjects (physical chemistry, unit operations, transfer phenomena, reactors, etc.) and specialized subjects in refining and petrochemistry.

At the end of this interdisciplinary training, graduates will have acquired basic knowledge that enables them to work in the refining and petrochemical industries.

Furthermore, this training allows for detailed analysis of complex, multi-component, multiphase processes to propose new equipment and methods to reduce production costs and material losses while producing in a safer, faster, and less polluting manner within the theme of innovation/intensification of petrochemical processes.

Curriculum

The curriculum consists of subjects related to Process Engineering and fundamental subjects in petroleum refining and transformation.

At the end of this interdisciplinary training, graduates will have acquired enough theoretical and practical knowledge to assimilate a petroleum transformation process :

  • Processing of petroleum products
  • Control of petrochemical industrial processes
  • Introduction to testing techniques for embedded systems (Hard/Soft)
  • Use of control and measurement instrumentation in the field of refining and petrochemistry
  • "Actions aimed at preserving the environment

The top students can continue their studies for a master's degree or an engineering degree.

Specific Objectives

The areas of activity covered by this training concern large companies operating in the fields of petroleum processing, natural gas industries, chemistry, and energy :

such as the company ETAP and its subsidiaries, foreign companies operating in Tunisia and the MENA region, and plastic companies, etc.

Some Specific Objectives of this training:

  • Develop basic skills related to techniques and processes used in the treatment of petroleum products
  • Develop the skills and abilities necessary for the control of petrochemical industrial processes
  • Develop the skills necessary for the use of control and measurement instrumentation in the field of refining and petrochemistry.

Professional Prospects of the Program

Liste des métiers visés :

  • Chief operator/ Operator in a refinery.
  • Consolist in a refinery.
  • Operator/ Fuel operator.
  • Operator/ Operator in a refinery.
  • External operator/External operator in refinery.
  • External operator in the petrochemical industry and energy production

International Perspectives

  • Opportunity to carry out internships abroad as part of the partnerships established between ESAT and international universities. We have already had a mobility program (internship from February to June 2018) with the University of Girona (UdG) in Spain for one of our students in the Applied Automotive Mechanics program (the program was already accredited before the unified program). Thanks to the ESAT-UdG agreement, this student, Amir Ben Aissa, secured a scholarship for a Master's program (MMS Mechanics of Materials and Structures) and graduated with a Master's degree from the university in July 2019.
  • Opportunity to receive Erasmus mobility scholarships during the university course, as well as for carrying out the final internship (mobility in Semester 6) at partner universities with signed Erasmus agreements. ESAT has already been awarded Erasmus scholarships for students since February 2017. ESAT received confirmation of Erasmus scholarships for the academic year 2019-2020 following accepted Erasmus projects.
  • Possibility of obtaining a Master's degree with a scholarship from our international partners.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the preparatory program, you must hold the minimum required diploma for the level of education you are aiming for

  • Access to the first preparatory year :Access to the first preparatory year : To hold a high school diploma in experimental sciences, mathematics, or an equivalent qualification for international students - Successfully pass the admission interview.
  • Access to the second preparatory year : To have successfully completed the first integrated preparatory year or preparatory year for the Engineering School Entrance Exam - Successfully pass the admission interview.
  • For students holding scientific and technological bachelor's degrees, access to various engineering programs at ESAT will be subject to criteria of excellence in the candidates' academic curriculum.

Duration of Studies

The studies leading to the end of the preparatory cycle are organized over 3 years now consisting of six semesters of instruction.
